SUKTHARA

This collection is inspired by real historical events in Thailand. Specifically, the ancient legend of Wiang Chet Lin. This age-old tale has been passed down through generations, yet few people know about it. It dates back to a time before the Lanna Kingdom and is now located in present-day Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand.

The Tale of Sukthara

A thousand years ago, there was an ancient place spoken of in legend—a city of seven sacred rivers known as Wiang Chet Lin. There, seven mystical streams flowed together in a perfect circle, resembling the eye of heaven. These crystal-clear waters safeguarded a flourishing civilization, ensuring prosperity and abundance for generations. Over time, migrants from distant lands settled along the banks, forming villages whose way of life became inseparable from the waters of Wiang Chet Lin

The waters possessed a miraculous gift—those wounded could wash their injuries in the seven streams and be healed as if by magic. Those who fell ill would regain their strength by drinking from the pure, sacred currents.

Thus, the townspeople began to revere the rivers, performing daily rituals at dawn to preserve their sanctity and purity.

But as the years passed, they noticed something unsettling the sacred waters were losing their power. The once-clear streams grew murky, and their healing properties began to fade. Panic spread among the people. Believing it to be divine punishment, they intensified their rituals, bowing in devotion, chanting without rest, and making endless sacrifices to appease the waters.

Yet, the situation only worsened.

They turned against one another, blaming the loss of the river’s power on those who were not devoted enough those who were not pure enough. What was once a sacred act of worship became an instrument of oppression. People were forced into ever more elaborate and burdensome ceremonies, even at the cost of their own well-being. And so, the seven sacred rivers slowly disappeared… until, at last, the city itself was lost to time, vanishing into ruin.

Only a single inscription remained, carved upon the central altar of Wiang Chet Lin, alongside the emergence of a magnificent bracelet known as Sukhathara.

“When the Seven Rivers become one, the Gate of Blessings shall open”

But what does this inscription mean? The answer to this mystery lies within the bracelet of Sukhathara itself.
